Fertility Acupuncture

There's a reason
you haven't conceived.
Let's find it.

Not "just keep trying." Not "everything looks normal." A real answer — and a real plan to address it. That's what Katie has been doing for women in Auckland for over 20 years.

WHAT FERTILITY ACUPUNCTURE ACTUALLY DOES

This isn't complementary medicine.
It's the missing piece.

Improves Hormonal balance — regulating FSH, LH, oestrogen, and progesterone to create the conditions conception requires

Blood flow to reproductive organs — improving uterine lining thickness and ovarian follicle quality

Egg and sperm quality — both determined in the 90 days before conception, both highly responsive to treatment

Cortisol and stress response — stress hormones actively suppress fertility; reducing them isn't optional

IVF success rates — research shows approximately 15% improvement when acupuncture is used alongside IVF

DISCIPLINES COMBINED

THE SITUATION YOU’RE DEALING WITH

Month after month.
Test after test.
Still no answers.

Sound familiar?

You've done the tests. Everything comes back normal. Your doctor says to keep trying. You leave the appointment with no more information than when you walked in — just another month of waiting and hoping and wondering what is actually going on.

Here's what "normal" actually means: within range. It doesn't mean optimal. It doesn't mean there's nothing to find. It means the standard tests didn't find it.

Unexplained infertility is one of the most common presentations Katie sees. And it's also one of the most consistently misunderstood. Because there is always a reason. There is always something — a hormonal pattern, a nutritional deficiency, a cycle irregularity, a stress response — that conventional testing didn't look for.

Finding it is exactly what Katie's combined naturopathic and TCM training is built for.

YOU MIGHT BE DEALING WITH

  • Unexplained infertility — all your tests say normal, but you're still not pregnant after months or years of trying

  • Irregular or absent cycles — your body isn't giving you a reliable window for conception

  • PCOS — polycystic ovarian syndrome disrupting your hormones, ovulation, and fertility

  • Endometriosis — affecting implantation and creating a painful, uncertain journey

  • Low AMH or poor egg quality — and being told there's little that can be done about it

  • Recurrent miscarriage — the heartbreak of getting pregnant but not staying pregnant

  • Preparing for IVF — wanting to give your cycle the best possible chance before you start

  • Failed IVF cycles — and wanting to understand why before trying again

HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS

Fertility acupuncture Auckland —
the mechanism.

01

Hormonal regulation

Acupuncture stimulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis — the hormonal communication pathway that controls your cycle. When this axis is disrupted, cycles become irregular, ovulation becomes unpredictable, and conception becomes difficult. Acupuncture restores the signal.

→ Regular cycles, reliable ovulation

04

Stress and cortisol

Cortisol — the stress hormone — directly suppresses reproductive hormones. The fertility journey itself generates enormous stress, which creates a cruel feedback loop. Acupuncture is one of the most effective tools available for regulating the stress response and breaking that cycle.

→ Lower cortisol, better hormone balance

Most people know acupuncture helps fertility. Fewer understand exactly how — or why combining it with naturopathy produces results that neither alone reliably achieves. Here's the science in plain English.

02

Uterine blood flow

Adequate blood flow to the uterus is essential for a receptive endometrial lining. Thin lining is one of the most common reasons IVF fails — and one of the most responsive to acupuncture. Research consistently shows improved lining thickness with regular treatment.

→ Thicker lining, better implantation

05

Naturopathic nutrition

This is what separates Katie from most fertility acupuncturists. Her naturopathic training means she can assess and address the nutritional foundations of fertility — specific vitamins, minerals, and dietary patterns that directly affect egg quality, hormonal balance, and cycle regularity.

→ Optimal nutritional foundation for conception

03

Egg quality

Egg quality is determined in the 90 days before ovulation. This is the window where both acupuncture and nutritional support make the greatest difference — improving follicular blood flow, reducing oxidative stress, and creating the conditions for healthy egg development.

→ Better eggs, better outcomes

06

Root cause diagnosis

TCM diagnosis looks at patterns conventional medicine doesn't test for — cold in the uterus, liver qi stagnation, kidney deficiency — each with a specific treatment protocol. Combined with functional naturopathic testing, this gives Katie two entirely different diagnostic frameworks working simultaneously.

→ Finding what others missed

CONDITIONS TREATED

Fertility acupuncture
treats specific conditions.
Not vague ones.

Every condition has a specific TCM diagnosis and a specific treatment approach. Combined with naturopathic support, Katie treats the condition itself — not just its symptoms.

If you don't see your situation listed, email Katie directly. Chances are she's seen it before.

Unexplained infertility

The most common — and most frustrating — diagnosis. "We can't find anything wrong" often means the right things haven't been tested for. Katie uses both naturopathic functional testing and TCM diagnosis to find the patterns standard medicine misses. This is where the dual-training approach is most powerful.

PCOS

Polycystic ovarian syndrome responds well to combined acupuncture and naturopathic support — regulating insulin, lowering androgens, and restoring ovulatory cycles.

Low AMH / poor egg quality

The 90-day egg development window is the key. Targeted acupuncture and nutritional support in this window consistently improves follicle quality — even when AMH is low.

Irregular cycles

Unpredictable cycles make conception difficult to time and often signal underlying hormonal imbalance. Acupuncture is consistently effective at regulating cycle length and improving ovulation.

Recurrent miscarriage

Getting pregnant but not staying pregnant usually has a cause. Katie looks for it — hormonal, immunological, nutritional — and addresses it before the next attempt.

Endometriosis

Acupuncture addresses the inflammation and blood stagnation patterns underlying endometriosis, while naturopathic support manages the systemic inflammation that drives it.

Premature ovarian insufficiency

POI presents significant challenges, but TCM and naturopathic support can improve ovarian response and hormone levels — sometimes meaningfully. Worth exploring before other options are exhausted.

Male fertility

Sperm health — count, motility, morphology — is half the equation and often undertreated. Acupuncture and targeted nutrition improve all three metrics. Partners are actively encouraged.

"In 20 years of practice, I've never met a woman whose body simply refused to conceive. There's always a reason. My job is to find it — and then address it with everything I have available to me, which is considerably more than most practitioners."

— Katie Kempthorne, Naturopath & TCM Acupuncturist · In practice since 2004

Natural conception after 2 years of trying

"We had been trying for two years. All our tests were normal. I was starting to lose hope that it would ever happen. Katie found nutritional deficiencies and a hormonal pattern that nobody had looked for. Four months later I was pregnant naturally. I genuinely cannot explain what it means to me that she kept looking when everyone else had stopped."

— Priya, Auckland · 2021

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

Real outcomes from real women
in Auckland.

Conceived during IVF preparation

"I started seeing Katie to prepare for IVF. She optimised my nutrition, started acupuncture, and found that my cycle timing was off in ways that explained a lot. I never needed the IVF. We conceived naturally two months into working with her."

— Kate, Ponsonby · 2024

Successful IVF after two failed cycles

"After two failed transfers, my lining had never reached the thickness my clinic wanted. Three months with Katie — acupuncture and a complete nutritional overhaul — changed that completely. My third transfer worked. She found what two years of IVF hadn't."

— Samantha, Auckland · 2024

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BOOK

Four steps from
uncertainty to a clear plan.

Step 01

A 90-minute initial consultation

Not 20 minutes. Ninety. Your full health history, your cycle, your test results, your lifestyle, your partner's health — everything. This is where Katie finds what's been missed. You leave with clarity.

Step 02

Advanced testing where needed

Where standard testing hasn't answered the question, Katie uses functional naturopathic testing — hormone panels, nutritional markers, gut assessments — to look deeper. Not every client needs this. Some do.

Most clients come to Katie having been through months or years of conventional care with no real answers. By the end of the first consultation, that changes. You leave knowing what Katie has found, what she thinks is going on, and exactly what she recommends.

Step 03

A personalised treatment plan

Built around your diagnosis — not a template. Combining acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional support, and lifestyle guidance in the exact combination your body needs.

Step 04

Ongoing support every step

Follow-up consultations of 45–60 minutes. The plan adapts as your body responds. You're never left wondering what's happening or what to do next. This is a partnership for as long as you need it.

QUESTIONS

Everything women

  • The honest answer is: it depends on what's causing the problem. Egg quality responds in the 90-day development window — so ideally you'd start at least 3 months before trying to conceive or beginning IVF. Hormonal regulation typically takes 2–3 cycles. Some clients see meaningful changes in the first cycle. Others need longer. Katie will give you a realistic timeframe at your first consultation based on what she finds.

  • Yes — particularly for IVF support and unexplained infertility. Research demonstrates acupuncture's effects on uterine blood flow, endometrial thickness, ovarian response, hormonal regulation, and stress reduction. The IVF data is especially strong — approximately 15% improvement in success rates when acupuncture is used alongside treatment. All major fertility clinics in New Zealand endorse it.

  • Two things. First, Katie is also a qualified naturopath — meaning she brings a second complete clinical framework to every session. Nutritional assessment, functional testing, herbal medicine, and dietary support are integrated into your care, not referred out. Second, she has over 20 years of fertility-specific experience. The combination of depth and breadth is genuinely unusual in Auckland.

  • This is one of Katie's most common presentations — and one of the most important ones to get right. "Unexplained" usually means the standard tests didn't find anything, not that there's nothing to find. The combined naturopathic and TCM lens consistently identifies patterns — hormonal, nutritional, or physiological — that standard testing misses. This is where Katie's dual training is most valuable.

  • Yes — within the 90-day window before ovulation or egg retrieval. Acupuncture improves blood flow to the ovarian follicles, reducing oxidative stress in the follicular environment. Combined with naturopathic nutritional support — specific antioxidants, CoQ10, and dietary changes — this consistently produces measurable improvements in egg quality. Even when AMH is low, the quality of the eggs you do produce can be meaningfully improved.

  • PCOS is one of the most responsive conditions to combined acupuncture and naturopathic treatment. Acupuncture helps regulate the hormonal signalling patterns disrupted by PCOS, while naturopathic support addresses the insulin resistance that often underlies it. Many of Katie's PCOS clients restore regular ovulatory cycles within 3–6 months — and conceive naturally without IVF.

  • Absolutely — and this is important. Sperm health is determined in the 90 days before ejaculation, just like egg quality. Acupuncture and targeted nutritional support improve count, motility, and morphology — all three metrics your IVF clinic measures. Katie actively encourages partners to be treated alongside their partner. It takes two to make a baby, and addressing both sides of the equation significantly improves the odds.

  • Very well — and this is exactly how most of Katie's IVF clients use her. She works around your clinic's protocol, times sessions to your cycle, and coordinates where helpful. The most evidenced window is before and after embryo transfer, where two sessions on transfer day improves implantation rates measurably. Many Auckland fertility clinics refer their patients to Katie specifically for this reason. Read more about IVF acupuncture Auckland →

  • Initial consultation (90 minutes): $185. Follow-up consultations (45–60 minutes): $125. Katie will give you a clear recommendation on frequency at your first appointment so you can plan. Online consultations are available for naturopathy. Acupuncture is in-clinic only.
