Irritable bowel disease (IBS)
Some people have cast-iron stomachs, but if yours is more like a delicate handkerchief you've probably been told you have IBS.
And if you're lucky, you've been advised to manage it by eating properly and not getting stressed. Ha! Easier said than done, right?
There are heaps of things that cause IBS-like symptoms. We'll figure out what's causing your gut problem and look at ways to treat it.
Here are some of the many causes of IBS symptoms:
Parasite infection - this causes itchy bottoms, chronic diarrhoea and low-grade gastrointestinal upsets.
Food intolerance - responsible for gut upsets as well as hay-fever, asthma and weight gain
Vitamin / mineral deficiency - this is behind constipation, diarrhoea and ulceration. It's a catch-22 - the more upset the gut is, the less it can absorb the vitamins and minerals it needs
Candidiasis - causes wind, bloating and bowel irregularity. It's an imbalance of bacteria - and you don't want to leave it untreated!
Diverticuli - these are outpouchings of the large bowel that can cause pain and discomfort.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
IBD includes Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis - two complex and hard-to-manage conditions.
They're very reactive to foods and natural medicine, and they need orthodox medicine.
We get that.
And we've had lots of experience teaching patients about what's likely to aggravate or alleviate their symptoms so they can manage the condition better.
We also know which natural medicines can be used with different drug regimes.
If you suffer from IBD, ask us about a great product called Digestinol. It's not easy to get in NZ and it's incredibly effective for reducing inflammation in the gut.
